Holla from NYC! I had the exciting opportunity to cover the Prabal Gurung show backstage and tweet exclusive snaps & deets leading up to the show. It was incredible observing everything that goes into a fashion show from hair & make-up to the last model turning the corner for the catwalk. His collection was amazing per usual with the perfect mix of sexy, detail, texture, and quirk. I almost lost it when I saw those Southwestern skulls. I think it's safe to say my life has peaked. What could possibly top this? Having a child? Ha!

My favorite part about this outfit is that both the shoes and the print of the pants remind me of a skeleton. Truth be told these shoes have been on the chopping block many times when I am contemplating a closet cleanse. Partly because they get uncomfortable quickly (but really, when is that a deal breaker?), but mostly because white shoes can be tricky and I tend to choose my nude pumps over them. I love how they look with pants though and I think they'll look especially cool come spring with a pair of white skinny jeans or a little floral dress.

I tend to go for a more natural look for night with my make-up and wanted to share my favorite products of the moment:

Laura Mercier Concealer: for under eyes...I need this more now than I have in the past and this upsets me, but it's a fact so there you have it.
Dior Airflash Foundation applied with Sephora Airbrush brush: Love the finish-very natural. I spray it on my favorite foundation brush then apply.
Skin Prep Nourishing Primer: I was using my normal moisturizer instead of primer before I learned that can make your foundation ball up. After using primer, I see a noticeable difference in the finish of my foundation so I definitely recommend using one if you aren't already-I like this one because of it's anti-aging benefits.
NARS Illuminator in Super Orgasm: I wear this both day and night for an extra dewiness beyond my natural glow ;)
NARS Highlighting/Bronzing Blush Duo: for night.
Bobby Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner applied with Sephora's angled eyeliner brush #23 (night)
Diorshow Extase Mascara: I've tried all of the Diorshows & this is my favorite. My lashes are pretty long & thick so I need something to exaggerate and curl them.
Dior Lash Plumping Serum: I generally don't bother with this for day, but I definitely do at night. This is the one I'm using right now, but I used one by Origins too that was good.
DiorAddict Ultragloss: Obsessed with this gloss, especially in Apricot. Pretty on & with lip plumping qualities too.
Anastasia Eyebrow Gel: My eyebrows grow down (it's so annoying) so this holds them in place and fills in any gaps. Anastasia has the best eyebrow products all around.
MAC All That Glitters Eyeshadow (not pictured): good sparkly everyday eyeshadow.

Now that I've written them all out, it really seems like a lot for a "natural" look doesn't it? For some reason I feel the need right now to mention male actors wear a lot of make-up to look natural too.

Big news: behold my first pair of Jimmy Choos found on major sale at Saks! I've been craving a pair of strappy/skinny heels after a long affair with chunkier ones & have also been diversifying my mini-skirt collection with fuller or knee length versions. This is what I love about fashion-as big as a certain look can be, the opposite is surely on its way. Neon to pastel, mismatching to monochrome, itty bitty bags to oversized clutches. I'm always looking to switch things up so the constant change suits me well.

I was lucky enough to attend a dinner hosted by Kanon Vodka at the historical Westerfield Mansion & this is what I wore to the special fete. Visiting the mansion was incredible enough, but to experience a four course dinner prepared by Stag Dining with vodka cocktail pairing created by Cocktail Lab? I meannn, it doesn't get much better. I love vodka.

I'll share some snaps of the mansion & party, but until then can we please work on bringing back the beaded evening bag? Mmmk thanks.

It's laundry day up in here. It's actually been laundry *three weeks* since I straight up have not felt like lugging my clothes down the stairs...and it's only getting worse. Full disclosure: I don't even do the laundry myself, I take it to a laundromat (I have done the math-it basically costs the same, yet my quality of life improves). This is how lazy I've been. I woke up feeling hopeless as I stared in agony alternating between the mountain of more exciting, newer garments & then back at the red headed step children hanging in my closet. Did I give up? No. Of course not. I summoned all of my strength and pressed on through my closet. As you can see, I persevered victorious. Love the combo of pink and navy and since pink with red is so hot right now I added a little splash of red too. Makin' it work.

Recognize this top? I wanted to share how Rachel Zoe suggested I style it in our video: with dark denim. In the competition I had wanted little shorts or a skirt (gotta show a little leg!), but didn't find anything really that worked. I absolutely love it with jeans & wore this outfit to a friend's birthday party last night. I have to say though...with the utmost respect of course....denim...on New Years???? No. Denim on New Years would be sacreligous. Dinner, out, around town, yes. NYE? No. Absolutely not. Black leather or satin pants would be rad because even if you go simple on bottom it's New Years so the pants should still be a fancy material! Am I right or am I right?

Now... can we talk about the details in this top? It makes me so happy.

Style Rules with Rachel Zoe

As you may have heard, my good friend Krystal of This Time Tomorrow and I were cast in the San Francisco edition of Rachel Zoe's Style Rules!! I shit you not. The challenge was to create a NYE look with sequins in 90 minutes & under $200. What a crazy experience. I had a lot of fun running around the Haight with the film crew & didn't even mind the bum yelling at me asking if we were filming "bang bus." Now watch the video first & then read on!

True to form, I go big or go home & attempt a look with separates. I didn't end up finding what I wanted on bottom, but my look was a lot of fun & that's what New Years is about! My outfit would also be great should I ever decide to join Cirque du Soleil. Congrats to Krystal on the well deserved win! Cummerbund? Genius.

I can also be counted on to turn lemons into lemoncello so first person who leaves a comment & says they want the pants featured in the video (size S)-wins them! They are awesome, but if you read my blog you know I already have a pair of electric blue high waisted wide leg pants & one doesn't really need two pairs of electric blue high wasted wide leg pants. Tuna Tartare: Coolest presentation of any appetizer I've ever seen. A tuna zen garden if you will.

Dips: seaweed, wasabi, sour cream, chives, guac, & some sort of carby crunchy balls.

Spicy King Crab: I dream of this sauce.

Black Cod with Black Beans: Perfectly cooked & pairs really well together actually. This tickles me though because they said each of the entrees comes with a side. I guess the side in this case was 5 black beans.

Blueberry Kamikaze shots: We still don't know for sure who sent us these. I nightmare about them. Pure sugary sickness.

Carpe Diem

Next stop, lots of wine and champagne at the poppin' Carpe Diem wine bar. Check in on 4 square to unlock free truffle popcorn.

I have a lot of thoughts on loungewear & supreme among them is the fact there's no reason to look sloppy just because you're comfy. I don't own a traditional hooded sweatshirt or sweatpants. I accidentally just typed "sweatshit" which, ironically, perfectly describes what I'm talking about. I was hesitating whether or not I should tell you my gym sweatshirt is Marc by Marc Jacobs and does in fact have a hood, but it zips down the middle so I have the option to have a hood or not & it also features some piping that remove it from the trad sweatershirt category. Wildfox is by far one of my favorite brands for good loungewear. This sweater is sooo comfy and obviously the fact it has gigantic lipsticks on it make it awesome. A real conversation piece...seriously, don't wear it unless you feel like talking about it because apparently it's hard for some people to tell these are lipsticks. Someone had the nerve to ask if it was a peace sign! Can you see me wearing a peace sign? Like the kind where someone is holding two fingers up in a peace sign?? If you answered yes, I have really failed here.

Well, I couldn't have dreamed up a better party dress. I'm a sucker for cut outs. It's funny how more fabric can actually make an outfit sexier...if this was just strapless it wouldn't be all that remarkable, but those few extra inches of material make the dress. The full skirt and knee length (on me anyway, probably shorter on you if you have grown since 6th grade) balance it out, but the best part is....

It has excellent twirling capabilities. I will caution you even though it's knee length, it can get real inappropriate, real quick. You know how when you've had some libations you are always suppose to remember you are not as sexy as you think you look when you're dancing...same goes with twirling, probably not as adorable as you think you look after a liter of cocktails. Good rule of thumb I'd say is to try not to twirl past midnight. For the record, I actually don't know this from personal experience because I prefer twirling in day light by myself while groups of strangers look on as my friend takes pictures of me. The blog trumps dignity yet again.

A lot going on here so I'm going to break it down for you in bullet points like I do my work emails to clearly get my point across:

This knit mini-skirt has become one of the more powerful weapons in my winter arsenal. I pull it off for work with tights and easy happy hour transitions or pair it with a chunky sweater for double knit action with short boots.
Please note the use of tights as a new way to mix prints.
I don't do neutral or pea coat so this boxy emerald green wool situation by Sandro is a dream. Who What Wear recently did their Line We Love feature on Sandro (I have the red wool shift dress pictured in the article too). This was by far my most dangerous boutique stop in Paris. I wanted everything.

The pants are fancy, the double plaid is casual, almost hipster, but the shirt is a bit western, which makes the necklace read a bit western too, when I thought it was more Aztec. heather clark jewelry strikes again

Apologies for the late posting, but I'm currently ~~hungover~~ fighting the good fight. Once upon a time I designed and made jewelry, I even sold it in boutiques, had my own etsy shop, and it was a catalyst really for starting this blog, but then life got in the way. I was hoping to get back into it so I was completely thrilled and honored when my friend Megan asked me to make her bridesmaids jewelry. Megan takes weddings seriously so it was incredibly flattering that she even asked me.

It's been a while so I grossly underestimated how long it would take me. Math has never been my forte and I kind of forgot 6 little pearls per earring x 2 x 8 bridesmaids...well that is 96 little pearls to attach for that component alone. Not that I minded, I just wanted to tell you how much I hate math. Did I also mention I knew about this for a year and waited until the week before the wedding? Whoopsie. I'm very happy with the result and all the girls loved it. I win again!

My dear friend Megan recently had a stunning three day extravaganza set in wine country. As you can see they were married in a church and then the reception took place at the completely magical Chateau St. Jean. Astoria necklace c/o Jewelmint

When offered a piece of hardware from Jewelmint, I specifically chose the Astoria because it reminded me of tinker toys. Did anyone else play with those or does the cheese stand alone on this one? My love of jewelry partially stems from my love of toys.

I also love clubs where you get some sort of monthly prize. One time my old co-worker asked me if I would be able to put his package in the refrigerator in his absence as soon as it arrived to work. He was kind of a weird guy so I was kind of weirded out. For some reason, packages that require refrigeration remind me of body parts, again, does the cheese stand alone on this one? I have a pretty wild imagination needless to say. Well, as it turns out, it was just his standard shipment from the Bacon of the Month Club. It had little piglet tape around the package. It was awesome.

Okay so we've seen caped shoes, cape capes, caped pants even, but I have seen a major lack in caped tops so I had tunnel vision when I saw this Maje numba in Paris. I kind of look like a flying squirrel in this last picture. Putting on a cape instead of a jacket makes the fact the weather requires outerwear much less painful. It's even more awesome since it's white. I wore this on a chilly afternoon prancing around Paris in Monmarte. A very dangerous spot if you are trying not to spend money on clothes.

...is my rad furry vest. I love this thing so much. I limit myself to one wear per week because it's pretty memorable and I feel like a cream puff. It is so soft I actually decided to sleep with it one night like an adult stuffed animal. When I was little I used to have a stuffed pig named Petunia I would carry around everywhere because I wanted to be like Angelica from Rugrats. If you are not familiar with Angelica (which you should really correct if you aren't), she would carry around a doll named Cynthia everywhere, but I liked pigs so Petunia it was.

As I mentioned in my Refinery 29 feature (which you should check out if you haven't already), the famous La Duree needs to be your first stop in Paris should you go. It is a pastry shop come traditional French tea salon that was founded in 1862 so you know it has to be legit. The ambiance is incredible and you basically just feel really fancy when you're there. I love feeling fancy.

I ignored the fact it was a tea salon and ordered a cappuccino. I normally never drink coffee either so an odd choice indeed, but you know me, always going rogue.

I really wanted to get macaroons, I did, but I realized that I can get macaroons lots of places, albeit probably not as good. So the internal struggle began where I tortured myself over my choice and asked the waiter for another minute approximately 3 times. Then I realized, fuck it, I am coming tomorrow too and I can try the macaroons then. So this is my prize, a Suces Praline: praline cream on top of a crispy biscuit, then dipped in chocolate and more pralines. It was amazing and different from any dessert I have had. I love it when I make the right decision.

Now that I've seen these, the excitement I had over the Baskin Robbins ice cream cakes of my birthdays past seems silly....actually, I take it back, but these are almost too pretty to eat...almost.

I will say I was really hoping they would put in the part where we were backstage and they asked if I was nervous to walk in the show and I nonchalantly told them no, I walk everyday. I'm not sure my humor translates very well.

These were taken our first night in Paris where we went to Galeries Lafayette to be interviewed. I don't think I've ever been interviewed on camera before so I was definitely a little nervous, but once I got going it was totally fine. I think. We'll see if they post the video so I can see how my real life charisma translates to video. Then the camera crew proceeded to run around following us so now I know what it's like to be on reality TV. I would be having a casual conversation about how the slits in my pants basically show my bare ass and then I'd notice a camera in my face. Hopefully they'll dub music over the live conversation. Did you read that Galeries Lafayette?

Back to the pants though... they are vintage Versace and belonged to my mother and they are a really big deal. They deserve their own post soon.

Bonjour! I'm back from Paris and will be sharing my adventures all week. In case you are new, I won the Galeries Lafayette Fashion Capitals contest so they flew me to Paris to represent NY with ManRepeller & walk in their 2nd annual fashion show (I know, I know). First, I give you the day of the show....

Everyone got ready at the Palais Broungniart, which is this beautiful, massive building that used to be the Paris Stock Exchange.

Total madhouse with swarms of people as well as makeup and hair stations. The second I stepped inside I thought, "What the hell have I gotten myself into?" Then I got really excited.

This is the VIP area where all of us got ready....doi. This man is apparently a super famous French hair stylist. He asked if we had any questions so I obviously asked if he could do anything with my hair, what would he do? He said he could do all sorts of things and that I have beautiful hair. It was a very diplomatic answer.

Leandra freaking out. She doesn't like to wear makeup. Watching this exchange really tickled me.

Getting my makeup done. Man, I am pale nowadays. Thanks for nothing San Francisco! I was trying to tell her she needed to bronze me up so I said things like "California," "tan," and you know, "beach." When that didn't work, I pointed to bronzer.

Getting my hair did. "Not too big" and "natural" was my creative direction. Every time I curl my hair though I develop a Real Housewife of Orange County complex. It makes me feel really done up, which then makes me feel like I'm trying too hard, and I do not like to look like I'm trying too hard. I really do love the way it looks, I'm just not used to it on me quite yet.

I was totally happy with both makeup and hair! It's always nerve wrecking when someone you don't know is working on you, especially given language barriers, but was pleasantly surprised an epic meltdown on my end was not necessary.

Please see above the Prabal dress I wore to his show. The bow very clearly makes the dress. I can really get behind a good oversized bow. It kind of reminds me of wings, which makes me feel like a superhero, which is obviously really cool. Combined with the shoes (the shoes!!) and glasses it's more like an outerspace superhero...even cooler. One passerby said I looked like Lady Gaga and I have to agree, although that wasn't what I set out to do. The outfit was a lot of fun to wear and it completely reaffirmed my love for being dressed up no matter what time of day.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending Prabal Gurung's NYFW show. You may know him from his awesome J.Crew capsule collection or the fact SJP wears his clothes like it's her job. I was so thrilled to be attending someone so major for my very first show and he even dressed me for the occassion! I would tell you to pinch me, but I actually don't really like to be touched so I'm not sure what you can do to wake me up from this dream. The show had so many elements I love: sexy cut outs, prints, FEATHERS, the short suit, and a steady theme of violet and teal. I was the proverbial wide-eyed kid in the designer candy store. I felt a little too at home.

I've been cheating on making jewelry with making clothes and this skirt is the result of my first couple sewing classes. My teacher was a little horrified when she saw the fabric and thought I was crazy for using such nice material on my first shot, but I only know how to go full force. In my mind, I was already plotting a boutique line and strategizing how I will balance my time sewing before I even stepped into my first lesson. The material is a little tricky because it's not very forgiving, but I'm pretty pleased with myself. I'm dying to make a pair of jacquard pants next.

As many of you have heard, I won the Galeries Lafayette + ManRepeller contest for a trip to Paris to walk in the world's biggest fashion show! I shit you not. This is more than a dream come true because my dream was to attend a fashion show, but I'm legit walking in this one and it's in Paris!!!! If you heard a shrill scream on Monday around 8pm PST that was me. Once I was in the top ten, it was up to Leandra to pick me so fate obviously intervened. My heart palpitations and night terrors that I had while waiting for the results have stopped now, thank you for asking.

Right when I think this is the holy grail of once in a lifetime experiences and this is the most exciting thing to ever happen to me...I get an email asking if I'd like to extend my trip two more complementary nights. Paired the emerald green jewels with some mint and a Zara leather skirt I snagged on sale for around $50. I love under $100 leather.

I hate blow drying my hair. I rarely do it. My hair dries stick straight so that doesn't really help my motivation, but this also means it ends up looking flat and blah. I hear most girls spend the majority of their getting ready time on hair, do you? It also doesn''t help that my hair dryer was a hand me down Con Air from the 90's that sounded like a gerbil dying a slow and painful death every time I turned it on.

Given this dire circumstance, imagine my sheer THRILL when Misikko offered to send me their Hana tourmaline hair dryer to review. I'm sure you noticed my hair looked way better than normal in my last post. Seriously, look at it right now. It's because I actually spent time blowing it dry like a big girl. I did my due diligence and researched what's important in a hair dryer:

It was cool though since I got to wear my new BCBG sweater obsession, it's perfectly oversized, super warm, and such a pretty color. The pleated shorts were a steal on major sale although the pleats can be temperamental. I plan to sew them down to combat this. Makin it work people.

I celebrated Bastille Day because Taverna Aventine was having an alley party with $2 champagne. I would celebrate anything for this reason. It started at 5pm so I needed to be dressed to go straight from the office: no time for anything besides throwing my shiz from purse to clutch and a lip gloss reapply. I wore the most perfect oversized menswear button down with my fave nautical pants. Nautical will always be in style....guaranteed you'll see it splashed across magazines every single year like it's the newest thing since sliced bread. I love to feel and look feminine, but I normally shy away from anything too girly. This skirt was pretty poofy so I was hesitant to try it on, but it was neon, so what's the worst that could happen? I was surprised to find I loved it! Even more surprised when I paired it with two more girly accents: a sparkly necklace and lace. To counteract this, I immediately exchanged my usual pearls for my bat studs and retired my nude pumps for snakeskin. I was in New York fueling up at La Esquina in preparation for a full day of shopping in Soho when Eileen's Special Cheesecake spoke to me from across the street. Best cream cheesecake in New York? Don't mind if I do! As we were sorting out the brunch bill, I ran across the street and was delighted to see a wide array of flavored mini cheesecakes. I chose cherry and brought back my prize. It was gone before the bill was paid and I did not share. I had two desserts on this day in fact.

Oh I've spent many a sleepless night pondering what my first "how to" should be. I'll spare you a braid or smokey eye tutorial and give you what I do best: how to amuse yourself in a boring situation, pool edition. It was too hot to be anywhere besides the pool in Palm Springs so should you find yourself in a similar summertime situation, these are my tips:

1. Stealthily swim up to the side of the pool and stare at other hotel guests. See what they do.

2. Create a synchronized swimming routine. Boyfriend optional, but highly recommended for a more advanced routine with flip/jump integration.

3. Play I Spy. Choose something barely visible. Witness the struggle.

4. See how long you can do things: how long you can hold your breath, sit at the bottom of the pool, float et al.

5. Make sure you have a cocktail in your hand approximately 60-75% of the time.

I rhymed!

This is the "adult pool." I love many things about this pool: the fact that it's an adult pool, the 70's feel of the yellow umbrellas, and the Asian inspired architecture.

The very clever "lemonade stand" where they serve all lemony cocktails by the pool. My favorite was the Muddled Lemon, but I skinnified it by subbing the sprite and lemonade for plain soda. Sooo I basically made it a vodka soda with some smashed lemon. It did the job.

Room service belgian waffle with mixed berries and devonshire cream (fancy huh?). For this night, we got the "glutton package" that includes a $200 food certificate so it basically paid for itself and made room service guilt free (money wise that is...).

I have a Starwood credit card so I used my points for the rest weekend! It's one of those things I kept putting off getting but it's so nice to have if you love to travel like me. Email me if you want an invite to check it out.

Adding some glamour in the form of a silky dress and statement jewelry for pool day 2 at The Parker. I call this kind of hair my "Sienna Miller" look. I say this when I think my hair looks dishelved, but still chic. It's the kind of statement that's met by the hysterical laughter of my girlfriends so I know it is probably less chic, more messy in reality. What can I say, my mother blessed me with an abnormally high self esteem. This is how you achieve the same look: lay out by the pool and go swimming all day with cocktails, go back to your room, pass out with or with out pants, wake up, throw on some jewels, and do it all over again.

Of course I had to dress for the holiday with red, white, and blue, which wasn't hard at all considering I've been drawn to those colors lately anyway. Now I'm off for round 2.

Holla from NYC! These are from my last trip here in April,but three things are always a must:

Pizza: Rubirosa is a new hot spot in the Nolita area. We got the pizza with vodka sauce, I repeat, vodka sauce. It's the size of a typical NY apartment. If I recall correctly, I had four slices. Yikes!

Martinis: A hop, skip, and jump from Rubirosa, Pravda has a prime martini list and makes you feel like you're in old world Russia. Although I've never been to the old world or Russia for that matter, I think this is what it would be like. In any case, when are underground bars not cool?

Broadway: I'm an Addams Family freak. I love things that are a bit morbid. Not sure what that says about me. My boyfriend surprised me with a ticket for my birthday along with a bouquet of roses with half of them cut off a la Morticia at my hotel. I die.

My girlfriends and I recently went on a wine, cheese, AND cupcake tasting in Napa. This was not a hard sell. We started at Stag's Leap Winery, which has a beautiful wine cave and equally lovely wine, then finished at Mario Andretti's Winery (pictured above), which has an Italian Villa design that makes you feel like you're wine tasting in Tuscany.

I wore a crochet dress that has been sitting in the "debating to donate" section of my closet for at least a year and hadn't been worn in at least 4, but for some reason I never pulled the trigger. Given my I-have-nothing-to-wear-how-does-this-happen moment that morning, I was happy I didn't. It's the best when something so old feels brand new!

I stopped in my tracks when I saw this purse at Bloomingdale's. It hit me like a lightening bolt. What is this bright red doctor's satchel looking situation made from the same jelly material as my childhood shoes? So what if I was actually there to return something? Sue me.

I found the nearest sales girl to determine if it was eligible for the private sale. Indeed it was. As I turn to retrieve my prize, I see it in another girl's hands. I could tell she loved it almost as much as I did...studying herself in the mirror, triumphantly swaying it from side to side. Panic sunk in when the sales girl told me this was actually the last one, that they have been selling out everywhere. My adversary caught our glance so my sales girl quickly instructed me: "Walk away. Act like you don't want it."

So I walked away like the good purse enthusiast I am, peeking every so often from behind the Kate Spade display. She was not putting the damn thing down! I felt a wave of relief when I noticed she had an impatient boyfriend waiting with her. There is no way a boyfriend is going to let his girlfriend buy a big red jelly purse. There's just no way. This is the one time I actually felt happiness my boyfriend was not around. In that moment, I knew victory would be mine.

She finally puts the purse down with hesitation. This is when I strike, grabbing it the instant it hits the glass table. As she walked away, she gazed back at me, a single glistening tear in her eye. Just kidding. She didn't cry. She did give me a look like I just ran over her new puppy though. Ah, I love winning.

Sushi Roku is my go-to for sushi in Santa Monica. They have a "Japanese Pub," Robata bar, right next door so we headed there to take advantage of the $5 happy hour menu and equally cool atmosphere. My favorite part about sushi in LA is that you can find spicy tuna on rice cakes pretty much everywhere. There are not enough rice cakes up north!

If I had to pick just one place in San Francisco to check out, it would definitely the Ferry Building. Every shop has its own distinct character and special touch; think truffle oils, freshly baked bread, macaroons, and restaurants hot for local, seasonal ingredients. Even better, the Farmer's Market held there on Saturdays brings the freshest produce and famous food vendors. My advice would be to get there early!

I love wearing my long skirt on windy days so I look extra flowy when I walk. I purposely say long given I can't stand the word "maxi" any longer. It's right up there with "moist" in my book. Along with white, metallic seems to be a recurring theme in my wardrobe so I couldn't pass up this waffle knit metallic sweater from Zara. Topped off with the obligatory canvas bag for my farmer's market spoils.

I adore flatforms. I'm all for new shoe silouhettes and I can walk miles in these.

In keeping with the brunch theme this week, I give you my fam's Eggs Portugal. My dad would make this every Christmas morning so you know it's idiot proof considering his culinary abilities begin and end with speed dialing Dominos (even after that video). It's a great brunch dish anytime, especially for Father's Day coming up! The prep work is basically all done the night before so you can relax in the morning. This recipe is also from 70's and I don't see why clothes should be the only thing revived. Okay, I'll stop now. Take a looksy yourself (my color commentary (literally) in red):

Eggs Portugal

Serves 14-18 or half the recipe

16 slices of white bread with out crust

10 eggs

2 1/2 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese (grate your own it is better)

2 cans sliced mushrooms (could not stomach this so I used fresh)

2 cans cream of mushroom soup (lo so)

1 1/2 tablespoons mustard

3 lbs sausage (two packs Jennie O extra lean spicy sausage, I figured there is enough fat)

5 cups of milk (2%)

1/2 cup dry vermouth (I don't know why either)

-Cut casing off of sausage, crumble, and brown

-Meanwhile, cube bread and place in two 9x13 baking dishes (use only one baking dish if halfing the recipe obviously) along with the grated cheese and sausage

-Mix together milk, eggs, mustard, and a dash salt then pour into the dish, cover, and refrigerate over night

-The next morning, mix together the soup, cooked or canned mushrooms, and vermouth and pour into the casserole

-Ovens can vary but 1 hour at 350 + 10 more minutes at 400 did the trick

Why aren't more fruit salads tiered? Why is it only parfaits are? This ends here and now. I've actually already told you to do a build your own mimosa bar so these should really be neatly diced in individual bowls waiting to soak up champagne.

This whole brunch cost me under $60 and fed 18 people so a very economical spread with out looking like it indeed. You better tell me if you make it! Have a good weekend.

I mentioned a champagne brunch in my last post, but I left out the most important detail...it had a bottomless build your own mimosa bar. OJ mimosas are t-i-r-e-d. Not that I would refuse one, but there are so many more possibilities for the little mimosa that could. This slice of heaven is at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel's restaurant, Silks, but it would be an amazing concept for an at home summer brunch. Breakfast food is super easy to make and cheap. Make a large egg dish + a side or two, then have a build your own mimosa table with fresh berries (straw, blue, and black), fresh grapefruit juice and peel for garnish, then ask each of your friends to bring a bottle of champ. Bayum!

The food was forgettable, but here's some french toast in case you were interested.

I've been looking for the perfect white blazer, one that's light and not too structured that I can throw over anything, and this one from H&M's "Conscious Collection" fits the bill. Paired with lace, metallics, and of course a burst of color, otherwise I'd start to twitch.

St.Helena is a charming small town in wine country and what I would describe as a "one horse town," but only in the best possible ways. It's the type of place where literally everyone knows everyone and all their families' ~~drama~~ business. The first Friday of every month they close down the one developed road aptly named Main Street for "Cheers!" Every shop hosts a wine vendor to pour so not only do you get to taste amazing local wine & champagnes, but you can check out all the swag in the local shops. Foot Candy & Pearl Wonderful Clothing boutiques are particularly dangerous stops. Tickets to the event are a mere $35!

This is my friend Sully, a real, live St.Helenaian. Let the record show this was not a candid photo, but carefully staged. It was especially fun for me to visit her hometown and witness all the akwardness that ensued. If I had a quarter for every time she raised her glass to someone and said "cheers at cheers!" I'd have enough to do my laundry for a year.

Also let the record show that I'm wearing a Marc Jacobs kimono that I purchased in high school. So ahead of my time huh? Unfortunately, I think I can call it vintage now. Also wearing Charlotte Ronson shorts and Kain Label T.

Finished off the evening with a divine dinner at Farmstead. You must finish your night here if you come. Meet the chocolate cream pie, also known as heaven.

If you're still standing after dinner you can go to the one, I repeat one, bar in town, Anna's. I kept hearing "Are you going to Anna's?" "Will I see you guys at Anna's?" Who the hell is Anna? I kept thinking. Well, now you know.

Then the next day head to Giugni's for a sandwich to help ease the hangover. You must have their giugni juice on your sandwich and actually, do as I did and buy yourself a bottle.

This would be an amazing event to attend to kick off a weekend trip in wine country so plan accordingly!

I've been afflicted with a 24 hour bout of seasonal depression due to the shit weather in the city so I'm posting about a great outdoor lunch spot for sunnier days, Nettie's Crab Shack. My mood is really surprising me considering I'm normally indifferent about the weather and borderline hate talking about it. I have a girlfriend who LOVES to comment on the weather daily and I basically tell her to shut up.

Her: OMG can you believe this weather, it is gorgeous!

Me: Yeah, I can see that. Anyway....

Her: I'm so happy it's sunny out!

Me: You realize we are inside and will be sitting behind a computer all day?
Her: It's 70 degrees outside!!
Me: Can you never mention the weather to me again?

The Crab Roll: rich in more ways than one, $26 and lotsa butter. The bite I had was amaze.

Crab Cakes: when a crab cake is basically all crab like these I'm convinced all is right in the world. They come with fries but I subbed salad and got the sauce on the side. I HATE mayo. Ugh I have a story about mayo but I don't even want to talk about it.

Thanks for reading my new feature "Taking a Cue." Although I don't keep an inspiration folder or anything like that, sometimes I come across a picture that sparks me to try something new. Sunday I met a girlfriend to watch the Kentucky Derby (the hats, not the race) and drink mint julips to celebrate the occasion. I love a good monochrome and white is always a favorite. My mom was HUGE into monchromes, claiming they make you look taller. She would take it over the top with the same color shoes, bag, pants, top, and lipstick, but she pulled it off well.
